I've seen a few sites saying not to use proxy servers. Not all sites say that, only the ones with a certain design.
So, what exactly ARE they?
What's wrong with them?
And who's got them?

Hi lungfish (Cool nick btw).
A proxy is a server that works on the behalf
of a nother so it Apears to be that one..
It's kind of dificult to explain this without getting
to tecnical about it.
It's kind of a firewall you can say.
Ýou can set your server behind a proxy, and
set up all the different rules on how to handle
data stream on that proxy.
It's nothing wrong with proxy servers. But in
some cases you might need to change your
email setting or something.
I really don't know who uses and don't.
Are you having difficulties, and with what?

No problems, I just wondered, as they seem to make some people mad.
I don't think I have one.
Some ISPs use proxies, so if you want to know you could ask your ISP.
It is making people mad because some webmasters don't know anything
about proxies and deletes some users on proxies for cheating while they're not.

Lene sumed that up perfectly ! :)
i dont know alot bout them but Pug and i had a discussion over them and aparently if your ISP uses a proxy to the programe webmaster it can look like you are from a different ip than you are, this makes alot of them think you are hidding behind one and may therefore have more than once account...hense cheating.
This is very unfortunate for members whose ISP's use them as they are not cheating and have no control over it unless you change ISP, something most people dont want to do just for the sake of one or two sites. I know i wont change my ISP as then i would loose all my phone call benifits and the pricing plan I am on and I am not willing to pay more for internet access then I already do. I am just Lucky my ISP doesnt use one.
