My best friend is a horse, named Beau.

He stands about 16.5 hands tall at he shoulder, for those of you that are not familiar with horses, that means that if he is standing behind me and wants to rest his chin on top of my head he can do so quite easily and I am 6 feet tall myself.

Beau can be quite the comedian at times. He likes to come up to me and nuzzle my hat around on my head, or hang his head over my shoulder. If I act like I am ignoring him he will blow in my ear or if I am sitting on something he will push me over, and the stand there and I swear it looks like he is laughing or at least smiling.

There is a small fishing pond in his pasture and if I go out there to fish he will stand there and watch to see if I catch anything. Often times he will stand there with his head resting on my shoulder so he get a birds eye view of the action. Sometimes I think he would even hold the fishing rod if I left him.

If I am having a bad day or feeling a little down he seems to know and will do something to crack me up and get me laughing and feeling better. So that is one reason I say he is my best friend, cause he looks out for me, is always happy to see me, especially if I have an apple for him, I think he loves apples even more than me!

Do we have any other horse owners here in the forum? If so speak out and share about your horse. I will share some of Beau and my adventures with you in the future. Some of them are pretty funny.

My best friend is my chocolate-point siamese cat.

He's been my constant companion now for 3 years and is with me 24/7.

He wasn't too happy when I used to go out to work, but is in cat-paradise now that I stay at home. We do all the odd jobs together, he makes a fine supervisor.

He's a bit overweight and saggy now, with a few bald patches, and has no resemblence to the pedigree that he was. But that just makes me adore him more than ever.

I spent a lot of time with horses when I was young, trading stable-duty for free riding.

I will never forget the beautiful musky smell of horse.

Did you know that they are prescribing pets to help those who are recovering from serious illnesses? The USA has led the way on this initiative.

However, in the UK, there have been pet visitors for several years using dogs - albeit on a localised scale. There is a rigorous testing program to ensure that they have the right temperment.

As you say, most animals exhibit behaviour that shows they do know when something is wrong with those they love - and strangers too for that matter. Many even understand what you are saying - at least our two.

My best friend isn't an animal (even the two legged variety). I do know that most people spend more time with animals than with other people - animals go with the flow, don't hog the remote and don't compete with time "on line" and they most they look for is a kind word and a pat and perhaps something to eat in return for the affection and adoration they give.

Maybe it's this virtuous reinforcing circle that will ensure that humanity finds a way to survive even the most devastating catastrophe of our own making.

I visited my horse today for the first time since my surgery. He was happy to see me I think. :)

He usually likes to play a little game with me , if I act like I am ignoring him he will push at me or do something to get a reaction from me.

Today he seemed to sense that I could not stand for any rough play, he was content to walk up behind me and hang his head over my shoulder and give me what I refer to as a hug from him. He just stood there like that for several minutes, occasionally blowing in my ear. :)

I felt like he was just saying he was glad I was ok and that he really missed me.
He wouldn't let me out of this embrace for about 10 minutes. :) B)

He is friendly to my wife and son but I am the only one that he acts this way with. I really am attached to him. I think we would both be lost with out the other. :) B)

Very Cool!!!

My Cockatoo is the same way. Although he gets along with basically anyone, he only sleeps on my lap and has even slept inside my shirt. He respects me and I respect him. I'm the only one that can play rough with him (remember, if he decides he doesn't like something, he could easily break a finger, gouge out an eye or rip an ear off!). We have a bond like no other!

I am kind of worried about my horse right now. There is a new country song that seems real popular right now. I think it is titled "Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy." :newconfuse:

Everytime I go outside and happen to see Beau, if that song is playing, I swear he is dancing to it. :o He seems to always be listening to that song over and over. I am about to take his radio away.

It kind of makes me wonder who will be riding whom the next time we go riding. :newconfuse:

I guess my only hope is that his hooves are to big to fasten the straps that secure the saddle, of course he may decide to ride bareback, I may be in a lot of trouble here.

There he goes again, his tail swishing in time to the music and doing the Texas 2 Step. Hey that is pretty good, as he has four feet! :newconfuse:

I am in trouble. "Help!" :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha:
