Well, after 1 day, 1 night and 1 morning, sitting without TV, stereo and 'puter in an unoccupied house (someone elses), waiting for a cat to return after two weeks on the run, I am finally back.
The cat belonged to my daughter who moved house and was unable to catch him before she went. Luckily for me, her sofa was still there and I still had a key.
I did manage to get him a few days earlier, on waste-ground....he attacked me and ran off, taking half of the skin of my arm and a chunk of thumb with him.
After that, I decided it was better to sit in the house and wait for him.
The cat did finally return....
...It looked healthier than me.

Was he hungry for some fish? :P
A friend of mine has a pretty crazy cat. The former owner
abused the cat, so she gets scared very easily
I don't dear to touch her.. she can be really cozy and then
suddenly freak out.
Last summer I had to feed her while the owner was on
vacation and let her out in the garden for a while as she likes
to sleep under the tree..
Not very fun when she didn't want to come back in and
I couldn't go take her in

Glad to see you're back!
We have cats ... one will go up to almost anyone for a pet but is scared of virtually every other animal in the neighbourhood.
The other is very timid and won't go up to anyone - bad experience in a cattery whilst I was moving.... so she won't eat at all when she's away from home - not even tuna.
The funniest thing is that she'll stand up to even the biggest dog if they come into the front garden - even though she no longer has any kittens in the house to defend. So far, the big dogs have backed down because the reckon she means business.
I'm lucky that mine come when I call their names or go "PSST" - I heard somewhere a long time ago that you need to use the "SH" sound or a hard consonant - C K etc in their name so they can hear you. Then it's a matter of training...
And as you say, when they are hungry enough, or lonely they will come home. But not all the time. One of my neighbours was looking after a cat for someone and it got spooked - for years it has lived in everyone's back garden and living off the trash and local wildlife. No one was able to get close to it and the owner never really bothered to come and call for it. So thank you for making sure you got your daughter's back in one piece.
Two weeks is a long time for a cat to fend for itself... probably found someone else to feed it.. which probably didn't help.
