Lene is my name..
It comes from Magdalene, a version of Magdalena.
Magdalena/Magdalene is inspired by Maria Magdalena in the bible.
Magdalena means "woman from the city Magdala".

(from a book about common names used in Norway)

OK, here goes.

Lungfish.

When my daughter was about 10, I offered to 'adopt' an animal for her at our local zoo. Any animal she wanted.

She chose the lungfish in the aquarium.

Now this guy sat in his little tank, all alone and never moved. He stood on his head in the corner.

Every month we went back to see him, and there he was...standing on his head in the same corner. We hoped that one day we would go back, and he would have moved, just a little bit...but no, year after year....same corner, same position.

So we just HAD to keep going back, just in case.

So there you have the reason....

lungfish....a truly fascinating creature.

antinomy
07-10-2004, 09:59 PM
My nickname - antinomy means the contradiction between two truths...

I see it all the time because I believe we have all the money and resources we need to solve all the world's big problems...

how to water the desert
how to have a comfortable life without polluting the world
how to feed everyone
how to keep everyone healthy

But we keep getting stuck in the trivia of small problems which prevent us from doing what's really important to us.

EG:

We're told to treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves, yet...

Yet most people treat total strangers better than the significant others in their lives that we cherish most. (This is not about having disagreements - just the nitty gritty of sharing space and time whilst getting things done in our busy lives.)

Why is that?

It simply creates more stress on day-to-day basis which significantly reduces the quality of everyone's life.

Antinomy, I have always wondered about your nickname.
When you first came to the forum I thought you were a guy
called Anthony. I think André and myself have used all possible
combinations of the letters in your nick

Is Antinomy a word that means "the contradiction between two truths"
or a combination of words or something else?

You were right the first time!

Antinomy a word that means "the contradiction between two truths" (it's rather complicated in big dictionary - but that's the heart of it)

Like "less haste, more speed" - so when you're in a hurry, slow down.

Well my nick came about from a long history on IRC
I was called Phoenix in real life by my friends for years and so originally I was Phoenix on IRC aswell for a few yrs then one day someone took it!! So I became Phoenix2 LOL

A few years after that someone went online with my name again! Phoenix is very popular on the internet so I gave up and changed to VamPvixen
I have stuck with that ever sinse.

Obviously from my choice in names I love mythology and anything gothic.

fyriss

fyriss

from two ancient root words

fyr and is

FYR is fire and IS is ice

so basically its fire and ice,

-----------------------------
Fire and Ice
Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire;

Some say in ice.

From what I've tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To know that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.
