The weather here in the UK is not normal... Tropical rain storms, thunder and lightening. When the sun is out it is hot hot hot!!! I would like a cool breeze - even with the rain, it is hot!

It's beautiful here in Michigan. About 76 and sunny! I'm Puerto Rican, so if it is sunny and hot, I'm right in my element. The hotter the better if you ask me. Hope it get's more to your liking soon though.

lol.. the past days have been terrible, but today it hasn't been
too hot..
We had thunder yesterday.. and trust me.. You wouldn't want it..
It was still terribly warm.. and when there's thunder it gets really
humid.. Not sure if that's the right word in english or if I mix it with something else..
It's really boring to stay inside alone when it's raining without
beeing able to use the computer because of thunder and lightening.. :(

Last year we went to Turkey for the summer holiday's
There it was 40 Celsius in the shadow.
I never tought it could be so hot there.
All we did was laying by the pool and to nothing.
Next year we would stay closer to home and go to Mallorca.

BTW:it's still very hot here in the Netherlands, with no rain at all :(
I get the feeling I drink tons of water. (-good-) (-good-) ~

I think when it's normal in Georgia the ppl there are used to that kind of tempatures.
Here in the Netherlands it's sometimes that hot but we also have a lot of rain.
In the Netherlands we normally not used to that kind of tempatures.
It seems that is going that way for the next week.
And I tell you thats not nice wether with high blood pressure :)

Aloha!
It's still hot here in the Netherlands, but thanks we live on an island, so you don't feel how the sun burns you because of the light sea-breeze. I'm more tanned than ever before in my life

Last week we were on the beach and within 2 hours I was totally burned :blush1: I looked like a lobster!

Nicole, for you this heat must be really horrible! But I think, now that summer started here in NL, it will last for a while. I'm happy that I choosed a bridal-dress with short arms, last year it was really hot here in September, so maybe it will be also this year

Happy I found a bit time to come in here, the last days were really stressy!

Much Greetings!

It's boiling here again as well - and believe me, I've never seen the UK when it didn't freshen up after a rain - it feels more like a tropical rain forest.

I've just hung up the washing to dry and I'm dripping sweat like I would have done in Japan this time of year.

I believe the biggest difference between the US and here is that most home here are not geared for airconditioning (eg cooling the house) - heating it up - YES, but not climate control. Most people don't have air conditioning in their cars either..

I don't mind an increase of 4 C - it's the extremes that are killer. We had some freak weather in Jan/Feb which brought out all the spring flowers and baby birds... Then snow (yes I have a picture of daffodils in full bloom standing proud in about 8 cm of snow). Then it was a long wet spring - got a bit hot in May and cool again. This summer is definitely as hot if not hotter than last summer - but the rain is different.

Aloha!
I'm very happy, that our car has aircool... It costs a lot of gas, but driving without it is suicide currently here. A few weeks ago I made jokes with an emailfriend from San Antonio/Texas about weather there and here - well, after my moaning about the bad weather here, I guess, he send Texas-Weather to the Netherlands (Sorry, Nicole!)
Our house has no air condition and even at night we have around 28 grades Celsius inside! Horrible! Today it was hot again like crazy, but we had a little pool-party at the neighbours (-good-) That really rules at this time!
When I'm cooking, I have around 45 grades in the kitchen, even with opened windows... Sounds like fun, huh?

Much Greetings from a hot Netherlands island!

Hi Nicole!
Guess, you watched TITANIC too often :P
Last time when I went with the boat, a few kids were talking about the TITANIC there
Our local tankstation would get rich fast if we sleep in the car, can't click sooo much
It's again much too hot today, and forget the breeze - no breeze today! :(

That's OVERKILL!
Guess I'll be black burned until our wedding! The beach is also full, so I'll search for a shadow place in garden

O no it's not that I watch titanic to much ,because i'm a romantic and I love to see that movie.
But when I was a little girl(toooooooooo long ago hehehe) we went with a boat in Spain.
You now that kind of boat where you can see another Island.
Right before the boat came to the coast I jumped(stupid, stupid me)of the boat and i almost came beneeth the boat.
So i'm still a chicken with boats and oceans.
I don't mind to swimm in the sea as long i'm can feel the bottom of the sea.
But hey that's one of the few things i'm chickend of.

BTW:Whe get tommorow 33 C.
PFFFFFFFFFFFFF the ventilator works 24/7
Don't get to black in the sun  :D  :D

I might be able to assist those of you that are having hot weather and do not have air-conditioning in your homes. :)

If you have fans you can move the air in many ways and some of them cool quite well at times. (-good-)

If you have a fan that you can set in the window you can use it to exhaust air as well as bring air in. Set you fan in the window so that it is blowing air out of the house. Close all windows except those on the oppisite side of the house. If you can you want to be pulling air in from the shady side of the house asa it is cooler air. If you have several fans that you can fit into your windows this will work even better. You want to try and create a tunnel effect. You will have to play with which windows will work best for this. :)

The windows that you have open may need to be partly closed. The smaller the opening the greater the wind speed, the greater the speed the more cooling power you should have. What you are attempting to do is create a breeze artificially. If you are able to pull the air in through the shady side windows it is usually cooler than air that is on the sunny side. :)

Even air that is hot will feel better if it is moving, especially if it is humid out. At night this can make an almost unbearable room more tolerable. It may still seem hot but you will have moving air which as it passes over your body while you are sweating it cools some. Our body's sweating in moving air is your own personal air-conditioner. I know it still leaves much to be desired, but it could be worse. No air flow! :ranting2:

There are too many ways for me to list that do help. These are ventilation tricks that I have learned and use to ventilate my chicken houses. I have been very fortunate in not loosing many chickens during the very hot humid weather that we have in the Southeast U.S. Many are not so fortunate. Chickens die very easily in high heat and humidity. In the summer, which it is here right now, we see temperatures in the mid to upper 90 degree's F with plenty of 100 degree plus temperature thrown in. It is also very humid here many times, it many times will feel like it is 115-120 degrees F because of the humidity. :newconfuse:

I am lucky that I do have air-conditioning in my home, but I stay out in the heat most of the time so that I can tell what is happening to my chickens. I am able to go in the house once in awhile to cool off and my bedroom has air-conditioning. So I am pretty lucky as I can usually get some relief. :)

I have used the above techniques when I did not have air-conditioning and it did help. You just have to experiment around to find the right combination, it can be different on somedays than it is on others.

If anyone wants to ask questions about this just post it here and I will try to help you find a method that works for your particular home and/or climate. (-good-)

Some cool-down tecniques for in the house.

1. Buy a big metal tray. Put your bare-feet on it while sitting down.

2. Run your wrists under cold water for a few minutes, or put your hands in a bowl of cold water, or wrap them in wet cloths (cools the blood as it returns to the heart, the cool blood then circulates through the body)

3. Get a hot-water-bottle and fill it with cold water instead, great for hot nights.

And if you're REALLY desperate, (and I don't know how healthy this is) take a cool (not cold) bath and let yourself dry naturally(no towel).
