Hi all!
I get this admin-warning about a new virus now...

During the next several weeks be VERY cautious about opening or launching any
e-mails that refer to the World Trade Center or 9/11 in any way, regardless of who sent it. PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, "WTC" STANDS FOR THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. REALLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL OPEN IT RIGHT AWAY, THINKING ITS A STORY RELATING TO 9/11!

BIG TROUBLE !!!! DO NOT OPEN "WTC Survivor." It is a virus that will erase your whole "C" drive.. It will come to you in the form of an E-Mail from a familiar person. I repeat, a friend sent it to me, but called and warned me before I opened it. He was not so lucky and now he can't even start his computer!

Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this 25 times than not at all. So, if you receive an email called "WTC Survivor", do not open it. Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries (dll files) from your computer.

I think that it's really macabre to play in this way with peoples feelings. We have also people from America here, and a lot of people are still really interested in this...

So, take care about this!

Much Greetings from
Rabsonja

Id just like to add a note to all our members of the forum:

If you ever get virus alerts please post them here.
Alot of Hoax's exist and circulate. this one in particular is harmless but some alerts you get will have "remove" instructions that tell you how to "fix your computer"
Often this will involve the removal of a file
Please DO NOT DO IT unless you ares sure
Often they ar a file in your system or system32 folder that you would not know it exists unles your very familiar with the files your OS (operating system) uses.
In effect it causes harm as you may very well delete a vital system file and find you can not boot your computer.

Post them here if in doubt and I or Pug will let you know if it is safe to follow the instruction (we both self-taught techs) also Antinomy has great knowledge of this type of thing and general puter probs too.

So efore deleting files or wiping your hard drive
ask us :)

No they dont have updates to the virus definitions for them as they are not a virus.

However on their web page they have a list of curent Hoaxs. There is also a search feature on the site to look up the name of the suspected virus and when you get the earch result it has the information on what to do if its a virus or information if its just a hoax.
