Before I started paying for hosting, I used tripod.com. It was not TOO bad for free web hosting. It is my opinion though that any serious business should pay for hosting. There are some really good plans that are very low rates and still provide a business with reliable hosting services, plenty of space and many features.

When I had free hosting with tripod, it was not overly fast. I could imagine my customers at the other end getting annoyed as they waited to view my page. In exchange for the free hosting, you also had to allow ads (that they chose) on your website. Again, I felt this detracted from my site and made my business look less professional.

The offer is not actually FREE because there are strings attached. You can have a free host but you have to deal with annoying ads. :D :D

I am looking for a good free host now. I want to put up a website for one of my interests. Since it is not business related I was just going to use a free host. Right now I am at NetFirms website and thinking of signing up. Has anyone used them if/when you ever used a free host.

Can yahoo geocities to be considered as a free host? I used it since 5 years ago. The main problem when host with the free host is you can't have your own domain, yuor domain will be like this xxxx.NetFirms.com or NetFirms.com/xxxx... I heard most of the search engines don't like to pick up those sub domain, hope it's not true.

ive just seen netfirms, but i think uve to pay 4.95 for the domain . If u want just a normal free hosting with no frce ads and abt 50mb, atspace.com should do it with its pretty user-friendly cp. But be aware that php is disallowed.

btw, u cn alwz get a free domain and redirect to ur site at atspace.

That's what im doing nw for my hobby site too.

hope that helps abit.

Netfirms' free host is full of ads. But if you can deal with those ads go for its free host. It is realiable per my observation with a sample site.

You can have your own domain name. What you do is make the necessary configuration in your domain account. You have to change its nameserver settings (the one with ns1 and ns2) with your host own nameservers. Other way is simply use web forwarding under your domain account and type your subdomain xxxx.NetFirms.com or NetFirms.com/xxxx.

I think it's a subdomain. If you're looking for a FREE domain name, you can get it here http://www.dot.tk . The FREE one is the web forwarding type.
