PTR - paid-to-read. After signing up to a program it will start sending you e-mails. You earn from every e-mail you read.
PTC - paid-to-click. Earn money by clicking on banners or links.
PTSU - paid-to-signup. Earn money by signing up to a program or site.

The reason I decided to write about PTRs is that paid-to-reading was what I started with, so the following is based on my personal experiences and I'm trying to remember as much as I can from times when I was a newbie. I also hope that people who are not yet involved in PTR and are interested will avoid making mistakes I made after reading this and therefore will earn money soon after they start.

So lets get started.

Things that you need for doing PTR:

1. Your own computer and internet connection. If you're reading this from a library, school or cafe, then PTR is not for you (there have been problems with members from Vietnam who were using public computers and therefore deleted from programs). You can read your paid e-mails from work but then you'll have to make sure that your co-workers are not in PTR business.

2. Best protection for your computer. The fact is that when you are doing paid-to-reading there's a higher risk of getting a trojans/viruses/hacker attacks etc... In case you don't have a firewall, anti-virus software and spyware remover then follow the links given in this thread: http://www.downline4all.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5482. If you use Internet Explorer then get yourself a pop-up blocker as GPT world uses pop-up advertising a lot. Check the browsers list at the end of the article to get links to browsers information to select the one that suits you best.

3. Separate e-mail address. Don't use your personal e-mail address for PTRs or it might happen that your mailbox will be flooded. So prevent having trouble finding all the important e-mails by creating a totally new one. Be aware that some e-mail providers block mails from PTR programs.

4. Time. The time of how much you spend on paid-to-reading depends on how many PTRs you are in. For example you can join 5 programs for starters and then after a week or so estimate is it too much or you can handle more e-mails (do not forget that almost all PTR programs have paid-to-click pages too).

5. Payment system account as most paid-to-read programs do not offer check/money order anymore. Most popular systems are PayPal, E-Gold and MoneyBookers. Creating an account at those sites is free but there are some transfer fees (check terms of service and fees pages for more information).

6. Optional - after you have received some payouts you can get a earning/referrals tracking software (The Paid Help (http://www.thepaidhelp.com/), GetPaidManager (http://www.nexus-soft.org/gpm-main.php).

Ready to join some paid-to-read programs?

But what to look when joining a program?

On main page there's usually some information about the program. It's pointless to join a program that has payout higher than $25 as nowadays in most cases it'll take years to reach payout. Also, you will probably not get paid in programs that have e-mails worth more than 3 cents. Go to the terms and FAQ page and read carefully so you know what to expect. Then see what the referral commission percentages and activity requirements are. ( In case of CC scripts use this URL to find it out http://www.programname.com/scripts/runner.php ) Joining process itself is easy, just follow the instructions.

Once you're already a member you'll see how things go and learn from The key to earning is joining the right paid-to-read programs that pay.

You can also read your mails from onsite inbox or by downloading them with an e-mail client via POP3 (check if a PTR offers POP3 options from the onsite inbox page).

When you have earned something (points or cash) and want to redeem it for ads then click the Redeption page link on Earning Stats or from menu. Pick the ad you want to redeem for and include your ad information:

* text and link if you redeem for an e-mail;
* banner link and referral link if you redeem for PTCs, PTSUs or banner impressions.
(Should be similar also in other scripts than CC)

If you want to buy advertising, first read this page - Instructions of how to submit advertising (http://cashcrusader.info/cms/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=1&categories=Cash+Crusader+Help+for+Members)

Here is a typical concept of how to reach payout quickly:

Sign up to 5 programs (can be 10 or 15 also, it depends on how much time you have). After you have been a member for about a week or two, select one that you think is the best and start promoting it in those other 4 programs by redeeming your earnings for ads. You should get some referrals under you who start earning for you. Once you reach the payout you can spend it to upgrade at some trustworthy PTR (this gives you monthly free ads and random referrals). With those ads (and hopefully redemption ads from somewhere else also) you can promote another great program. And so on and so on until finally you'll have some money to withdraw from the PTR circle.

One thing you should always remember - what counts in paid-to-read business is patience. At some moment you may notice that what you are doing is not paying off. But that will change eventually.

Here is the Browsers list I promised earlier:
Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/)
Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/)
Maxthon (http://www.maxthon.com/en/index.htm)
Opera (http://www.opera.com/)
CrazyBrowser (http://crazybrowser.com/)

You can find more browsers by going to http://www.download.com and search for "browser". And if you're interested in what browsers D4A members prefer here, then follow this link: http://www.downline4all.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6300
