Do you mean actually market your services within groups you belong to? All of the groups I am in, you cannot do so. They don't even allow you to include a link in your signature to your business's website.
You can advertise in yahoo groups though. Every few messages you click on, brings up an advertisment first. I have never looked into that avenue yet though.

I belong to a few yahoo groups and have been successful in sales and recruiting via them. The groups that I post in frequently and build relationships in are the ones that end up being successful for me.
What do you sell through those groups WhiteLilyTamra?
I was wondering if anyone had success advertising in other's groups or starting their own.

I sell my soy blended candles. Sometimes I post about the candles but most of the time it's just my signature line that grabs people's attention.
My email signature has a photo of a monkey and a link to my website http://www.monkeyfartcandles.com - Monkey Fart is our most popular scent.
I own a few groups plus belong to other people's groups.
Interesting name for a candle scent :)
I have been planning to try yahoo groups, I just need a few more hours a day first.. 48 hours in a day sounds good to me

I think it's also a good avenue for marketing. You just need to look for reputable groups to join. Avoid spam based yahoo groups because posting alone takes time.

I am curious to know more about the yahoo groups too. Something like how it works, how many members of the groups will see your ads and so on.
Let's take an example of WhitelilyTamra, most of the members in the group are looking to promote their own products instead or buying products from you, so how are we going to benefit from joining the group?

All the members of that particular group can see your ads. If that is a public Yahoo group, anyone can sign up and immediately given access to all the contents of that specific group. For moderated groups, application for membership has to be approved by the super moderator including contents for posting.

You join groups along your line of interest. In terms of benefits, you can gain vital information for instance on potential market and other relevant insights even if all of you are sellers. Note it's tough to locate market if you go on your own. Joining groups create synergism (1 +1 = 3).
