With the new anti-spam laws it is more important than ever to be careful that you do not spam anyone. As of now about 65% of people say they use some type of anti-spam filtering program. Open rates of email is at about 32.6% and click through rates at only 8%. I believe these stats were from the end of 2004, but I can check again.

On the lighter side, you should be glad that there's such a thing as spam. This creates vast business opportunities to programmers and entrepreneurs. Moreover, spam is trying to reach out --trying to be part positively in "addressing" digital divide. Prior to the evolution of internet we hardly received vital information (products and services) as we are faced with dearth of information which could have shaped our daily life routine earlier more productively.

I open a lot less, but I have started getting a lot of spam lately :(

I'm not trying to be negative but I don't think I have ever gotten any useful spam. I don't so much mind if a small company emails me to advertise say their web design services or something but when I get these "job opportunities" that require me to pay or something that bugs me.
